High school softball: Belle Vernon scores 20 as Parshall throws no-hitter
Bailey Parshall pitched a no-hitter and Belle Vernon’s offense erupted for a season-high output Tuesday as the Leopards rolled to a 20-0 victory over winless Carrick in Section 2-AAAA.
Parshall struck out 12 of the 15 batters she faced and Belle Vernon’s offense gave her plenty of support, collecting 14 hits and drawing 12 walks.
Kourtney Gavatorta doubled and drove in three runs for Belle Vernon (8-1, 12-1). Lindsay Streeber and Ally Pacak also doubled.
The Leopards have outscored their opponents 100-9 on the season.
Carrick is 0-8.
• Carmichaels stayed in the thick of the Section 2-A title hunt with a 6-0 victory at California.
Winning pitcher Laura Walker threw a six-hitter and the Mikes took advantage of eight California errors. Natalie McNett had the big hit for Carmichaels, a home run. Kaitlyn Wilson drove in two runs and Gina Ranieri added a double to the cause for the Mikes, who are 6-1 in the section and 9-1 overall.
California is 4-5, 4-7.
• Canon-McMillan had a 14-hit attack and cruised to a 17-1 victory over host Brashear in Class 6-A Section 1.
Kylah Kubiczka led the Big Macs (7-1, 7-2) at the plate, going 4-for-4 with two doubles, five RBI and four runs. Katelyn Greaves drove in three runs, and Kayla Hopkins, Makenzie Hollie, Brittney Crawford, Lindsey Schmidt and Sydney Senay each contributed a double to back winning pitcher Abi Michelucci.
• Chartiers-Houston scored 14 runs in the third inning and defeated Beth-Center 21-0 in Section 3-AA.
Macie Kesneck had a big day, going 3-for-4 with a triple, three runs and five RBI for Chartiers-Houston (5-2, 11-3). Kayla Elliott doubled and drove in three runs, Jessica Ford had a double and Kaci Alderson was 2-for-3 with two RBI.
• Section 3-AAA leader avoided and upset as its held off host McGuffey, 5-4.
South Park (7-0, 9-1) scored three times in the fifth to take a 4-0 lead before McGuffey (2-5, 3-9) came charging back and scored three times in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Highlanders scored one of the runs on an error and two more on Emily Vinski’s single with two outs. McGuffey stranded the potential game-tying run at third base.
Chelsea Carozza and Kaitlyn Pavlick each homered for South Park and winning pitcher Jessica Dean doubled.
• Delaney Ging homered, doubled and drove in four runs, and South Fayette took advantage of 13 Elizabeth Forward errors as the Lions won 16-11 in a Section 2-AAAA game.
South Fayette (5-4, 9-5) scored 13 unearned runs because of the errors by EF (5-3, 6-6).
South Fayette’s Sara Jubas doubled and scored five runs, and Charley Cribben smacked two doubles.
Jordan Pinneri drove in four runs for EF, which scored six times in the bottom of the seventh inning.
• Brownsville unleashed an 11-hit attack and took advantage of seven Waynesburg errors to defeat the Raiders 16-1 in a four-inning Section 3-AAA.
Abby Vaughn was 3-for-4 with two RBI and three runs for Brownsville (2-5, 3-8).
Waynesburg, which was held to four hits by winning pitcher Payton Hall, is 4-3 in section and 8-4 overall.
• A 10-run third inning powered Mapletown to a 19-1 rout of Avella in a Section 2-A game.
Hannah Dingle had a double and two RBI and Rachel Hartley had a double and three RBI for the Maples (4-5, 6-9). Michaela Perry knocked in three RBI and Sara Chory had a double. Abby McIntire allowed one hit, struck out four and drove in two runs.
