Softball: Carmichaels upends Monessen
Carmichaels scored six runs in the bottom of the second inning as the Mikes grabbed control of second place in Section 2-A with a 7-2 win over Monessen Wednesday.
Gina Ranieri led off the second with a triple and scored on an error before Maddi Ewart’s two-run single became the big blow against Monessen starter Dana Vatakis.
Kylie Sinn scattered six hits and struck out four to get the win for the Mikes (7-1, 10-4).
Vatakis had a double for the Greyhounds (5-3, 8-3).
• Brooke Diamond homered and Jefferson-Morgan scored 11 runs in the first inning as the Rockets defeated Avella, 16-1, in a four-inning Section 2-A game.
Caitlyn Dugan allowed one hit, striking out seven, for the Rockets (1-6, 2-8).
Jordan Rush had the lone hit for Avella (0-9, 0-10), a double.
• Annalia Paoli had two home runs and drove in five as Albert Gallatin defeated Trinity, 15-4, in a six-inning Section 2 game in Class 5-A.
Madison Hershberger, Hannah Turtzer and Lindsey Robinson each had doubles for Albert Gallatin (6-2, 11-3), which had 16 hits.
Marlaina Bozek doubled for Trinity (0-7. 2-7).
