Ben Miller and Cameron Bernhardt combined to drive in nine runs in Waynesburg’s 11-4 win over Thiel as the Yellow Jackets salvaged a split of their PAC doubleheader. The Yellow Jackets won the first game, 8-6, by scoring eight runs in the top of the seventh inning.

Miller went 2-for-3 with a grand slam and a bases-loaded hit by pitch to account for five RBI. Bernhardt was 2-for-3 with a three-run homer and four RBI. The big games backed the winning pitching of Derek Whalen, who allowed four runs over six innings for Waynesburg (10-10, 16-19).

Nick Fowkes, a Ringgold graduate, had the big hit in Thiel’s eight-run seventh in the opener. His bases-loaded double drove in three runs and gave the Tomcats (12-9, 20-15) a 7-5 lead.

Nick Bucci was the winning pitcher and Kevin Forrester of Canonsburg pitched the bottom of the seventh for his third save of the season.

• A throwing error in the fifth inning allowed two California runs to score as the Vulcans took the lead and then held on to defeat Indiana 5-4 in the opening game of a PSAC West Division doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Wild Things Park.

IUP won the second game, 6-2, to earn a split.

Winning pitcher Joe Yourgal pitched six innings of shutout relief for California (11-13, 20-24) in the opener. The Vulcans fell behind 4-0 in the top of the first, but the Vulcans scored three times in the bottom of the inning, including an RBI double by Chris Wastchak. The throwing error by IUP gave Cal a 5-4 lead.

Cal had nine hits in the second game but pushed only two runs across the plate in the second game.

IUP is 14-10, 18-22.
