Things hold on for win
A four-run seventh inning broke open a close game then the Washington Wild Things had to withstand an onslaught in the eighth inning to earn an 8-7 victory over the Schaumburg Boomers Tuesday in a Frontier League game.
Kenny Peoples-Walls bases-loaded double knocked in three of the runs and Hector Roa knocked in the other with a fielder’s choice for Washington in the decisive seventh inning. That made it 8-2.
But Schaumburg scored five runs in the bottom of the eighth to bring it to within one run. Zach Strecker got out of a bases-loaded jam in the inning and finished the save with a scoreless ninth.
Washington jumped to 4-0 lead by scoring two runs in the second inning and two more in the third. Kyle Pollock hit a two-run home run in the third.
Schaumburg cut the lead in half with two runs in the bottom of the third.
