Girls basketball roundup: West Greene runs away from Carmichaels, stays unbeaten
Undefeated West Greene battled back from a deficit at the end of the first quarter by scoring 50 points over the next two quarters and running away with a 76-34 victory over host Carmichaels in a nonsection game Wednesday night.
Carmichaels (2-2) led 14-12 after one quarter, but the Pioneers (3-0) scored 23 points in the second quarter and 27 more over the next eight minutes to forge a commanding 62-29 lead.
The Pioneers put four players in double figures led by McKenna Lampe with 20 points. Madison Lampe was close behind with 19 points, Kiatlyn Rizor scored 10 and Elizabeth Brudnock tallied 10.
Kristina Aeschbacher led Carmichaels (2-2) with nine points. The Mikes open section play tonight at Greensburg Central Catholic.
Canon-McMillan 53, Ringgold 37: Canon-McMillan pulled away over the middle quarters and won its third game of the season, 53-37 at Ringgold in a nonsection contest.
Tamara Mathis scored a game-high 17 points and Izzy Allen had a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Big Macs (3-1). Ringgold (2-2) led 15-12 after one quarter but Canon-McMillan (3-1) outscored the Rams by a 20-8 margin in the second quarter to take a 32-23 lead at halftime. The Big Macs stretched the advantage to 42-28 after three quarters.
Nia Adams led Ringgold with 12 points and Taylor Costa reached double figures by scoring 10 points.
Clairton 39, Jefferson-Morgan 25: Ionna Chpman and Evanti Gibson combined for 22 points to power Clairton to a 39-25 victory over visiting Jefferson-Morgan in a nonsection contest.
Clairton (2-2) led by only four points at halftime and broke open the close game by outscoring J-M (1-3) by a 14-6 margin int he third quarter. Chapman led the Bears with 12 points and Gibson scored 10.
Jefferson-Morgan’s Krista McCartney was the game’s leading scorer with 16 points. Savannah Faeson grabbed nine rebound for the Rockets.
Kiski 58, Monessen 22: Harley Holloway scored a game-high 20 points as Kiski defeated Monessen 58-22 in a non-section game.
The Cavaliers jumped out to a 20-4 lead after the first quarter, while Monessen failed to reach double-digits in any quarter.
Kiski (2-1) also found secondary scoring from Hannah Potter, who finished with 11 points.
Natalia Holmes led Monessen (0-3) with 10 points.
