McKenna Lampe surpasses 1,000 points in West Greene win

McKenna Lampe scored 31 points and became the sixth girl in school history to eclipse the 1,000-point milestone as West Greene defeated Jefferson-Morgan 75-17 in a Section 2-A opener at West Greene High School.

Lampe, a junior, entered the game needing 26 points to achieve the feat. She now has 1,005 career points, fifth on the all-time scoring list in school history.

West Greene (1-0, 6-0) outscored the Rockets 56-7 in the first half.

The Pioneers also found secondary scoring from Elizabeth Brudnock, who scored 15 points. Madison Lampe had 13, while Kaitlyn Rizor finished with nine.

The patented West Greene press suffocated the Jefferson-Morgan (0-1, 1-6) offense, which failed to score at least five points in three of the four quarters.

Katey Wolfe led the Rockets with nine points.

Washington 67, Aliquippa 34: Carley Allen scored a season-high 31 points as Washington defeated Aliquippa 67-34 in a Section 1-AA game.

Washington (2-1, 4-3) came out and jumped on the Quips early, holding a 40-14 lead at halftime.

The Prexies found secondary scoring from Randi Thomas, who finished with 11 points. Torri Finley had nine and Jahlea Oakley collected eight rebounds to accompany her six points.

Jazmin Walker scored 13 points to lead Aliquippa (0-3, 0-6).

Peters Township 38, Bethel Park 37: Makenna Marisa grabbed her own rebounds and scored with 25 seconds remaining as Peters Township defeated Section 3-6A rival Bethel Park, 38-37.

The Indians rallied after taking a one-point deficit into the fourth quarter.

Olivia Ziegler had 10 points for Peters Township (1-0, 7-0).

The lone offense from Bethel Park (0-1, 4-2) came from Maria Cerro, who finished with 21 points.

California 38, Greensburg Central Catholic 33: Bailey Vig led all scorers with 22 points as California defeated Greensburg Central Catholic 38-33 in a Section 3-AA game.

Despite being outscored in the second and third quarters, GCC (1-2, 1-4) couldn’t overcome the six-point deficit it was faced with after the opening eight minutes.

Bella Skatell scored 16 points for the Centurions, while Anna Eisaman finished with 12.

California (2-1, 4-2) has won four of its last five.

South Fayette 64, Moon 39: Sam Kosmacki continues her return in a big way as she finished with a game-high 18 points to lead South Fayette past Moon, 64-39, in a Section 1-5A game.

The Lions benefited from a big, 20-point second quarter to take a 33-17 lead into the break.

Maura Castelluci had 15 points for South Fayette (1-0, 2-3).

Moon (0-1, 1-6) was paced by Morgan Toal, who finished with 12 points. Ava Mancini also had 10 for the Tigers.

Belle Vernon 53, South Park 36: Kelsey Green had 17 points to lead all scores as Belle Vernon defeated South Park 53-36 in a Section 3-4A game.

Green’s 17 points led to a productive first half for the Leopards, who outscored South Park 26-14.

Caitlyn Trombley also finished in double digits for Belle Vernon (3-0, 5-2) with 13 points.

Maura Huwalt had nine points for South Park (1-2, 3-4).

Serra Catholic 60, Bentworth 23: Serra Catholic used an impressive defensive effort to stifle Bentworth 60-23 in a Section 3-AA game.

After taking a 30-17 lead into halftime, Serra Catholic held the Bearcats scoreless in the third quarter, outscoring them 16-0 to further extend its lead.

Bentworth (0-3, 1-5) was led by seven points from Jenna Vito.

Rylan Geeman scored a game-high 11 points for Serra Catholic (3-0, 4-2).

East Allegheny 62, Waynesburg 26: Amani Johnson scored half of her team’s points as East Allegheny defeated Waynesburg 62-26 in a Section 2-AAA game.

One of the most productive guards in the WPIAL, Johnson finished with 31 points, including three three-pointers.

Abby Henderson also reached double figures for East Allegheny (3-0, 6-0) with 14 points.

Waynesburg (0-2, 1-5) was led by a team-high eight points from Emma Mankey.

Avella 47, Monessen 27: Taking a big first-half lead behind the scoring of Bailey Lis, Avella defeated Monessen 47-27 in a Section 2-A opener.

Lis led all scorers with 21 points as Avella evened its overall record (3-3).

Madison Telegraphis had a team-high seven points for Monessen (0-1, 1-5).

Frazier 73, Carmichaels 40: Brooke Poling and Sierra Twigg combined for 46 points as Frazier defeated Carmichaels 73-40 in a Section 3-AA game.

Poling, who finished with a game-high 26 points, led all scorers. Twigg had 20 points for Frazier (2-1, 3-3).

Carmichaels (0-3, 3-5) was led by Kristina Aeschbacher’s 13 points. Jadyn Barnish also finished in double figures with 10 points.

Fort Cherry 34, Shenango 32: Bri Shaffer had a triple-double as Fort Cherry defeated Shenango 34-32 to stay undefeated in Section 1-AA play.

Shaffer finished with 11 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists for Fort Cherry (3-0, 5-1).

Shenango (1-2, 2-4) was led by Madison Hayden’s 13 points.

Trinity 69, Greensburg Salem 27: Riley Derubbo scored 17 of her game-high 21 points in the first half to help Trinity rout Greensburg Salem, 69-27, in a Section 3 game in Class 5A.

Alayna Cappelli scored 16 points for the Hillers (2-0, 6-1), who led 43-16 at halftime.

Greensburg Salem was paced by Megan Kollock’s 13 points.

Upper St. Clair 46, Canon-Mac 42: Upper St. Clair had three players score 11 points in a 46-42 victory overCanon-McMillan in a Section 3 game in Class 5A.

Lindsay Meyer, Kennedy Bayer and Kate Groninger each scored 11 points for the Panthers (1-0, 3-1), who led 20-19 at halftime.

Canon-Mac (0-1, 5-2)was paced by Izzy Allen’s double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds. Abby Daniels chipped in with 11 points.

Charleroi 47, South Side Beaver 41: Charleroi scored all its fourth-quarter points from the free throw line in a 47-41 victory over South Side Beaver in a Section 2-AAA game.

The Cougars (3-0, 5-1) hit 13 of 16 free throws in the fourth quarter.

Kaitlyn Riley scored 16 points and had 8 rebounds for Charleroi. Sierra Short tossed in 14 points, Aislyn Lee had 8 assists and Maria Claybaugh 6 rebounds.

SS Beaver was paced by Jesse Arbor’s 15 points and Alexas Chiccarello’s 12 points.

Beth-Center 66, Jeannette 23: Kinlee Whited had a double-double to help Beth-Center rout Jeannette, 66-23, in Section 3-AA

Whited had 15 points and 10 rebounds for B-C (1-2, 3-4). Olivia Grecoe scored 17 points and had 9 assists and Elizabeth Trump scored 10 points and grabbed 9 rebounds.

Boys results

Beth-Center 52, Charleroi 49: Andrew Bower hit a three-point field goal at the buzzer to give Beth-Center a 52-49 victory over Charleroi in a Section 4-AAA game.

It was Beth-Center’s first section in two years.

Bower had 18 points on 6 three-point field goals for B-C (1-2, 3-4). JJ Green added 12 points.

Charleroi was paced by Caleb Carson’s 15 points, Joe Caruso’s 14 points and Lee Vardinini’s 11.

South Fayette 63, South Park 55: Three players scored in double figures for South Fayette as it defeated South Park 63-55 in a Section 3-4A game.

Conner Mislan finished with a game-high 16 points, while Tim Locher scored 14 and Noah Plack-Tallerio had 10 to knock off the Eagles, who were the section leaders entering the night.

South Fayette (2-1, 4-2) built enough of a first-half lead – the Lions led 31-18 at halftime – to avoid a rally from the Eagles in the third quarter.

Devin Turner led South Park (2-1, 3-3) with 15 points.

Monessen 91, Avella 34: A 36-point first quarter led Monessen to an easy 91-34 victory over Avella in a Section 2-A game.

Lyndon Henderson led all scorers with 26 points for Monessen (1-0, 2-3), which bounced back after losses to Westinghouse and Norwin.

Cory Fleming also finished with 21 points for the Greyhounds. Owen English scored 13 points for Avella (0-1, 0-4).

Fort Cherry 43, Bentworth 37: Nate Higham hit a basket with 1:43 to play to break a tie and secure a 43-37 victory over Bentworth in a Section 2-AA.

Ryhan Culberson led Fort Cherry with 15 points and Higham finished with 14 points

Bentworth was paced by Steven Harner’s 11 points and Levi Jordan’s 10 points.
