It was a festive night at Hiller Hall Thursday.

Trinity wrestling coach Mark Powell came out for the wrestling match in a Christmas outfit and his wrestler wore Santa caps.

What made the night more special was the Hillers’ 36-27 victory over McGuffey in a non-section dual meet.

The win comes one night after the Hillers dropped a 45-27 decision to Waynesburg.

“We bounced back,” said Powell. “We’re going through a tough road right now. We might have overlooked Waynesburg with McGuffey coming up. But the foundation is set, the frame is up and now all we have to do is decorate it.”

Trinity (2-1) got big wins at 132, where Micah Finley took a 6-4 decision from Jett Pattison, a state qualifier last year; and Will Edgar, who downed Noah Cline 4-1 in four overtimes.

“A couple of our kids were flat,” said Powell. “It’s been a hard grind. But this is a talented group and some of our kids need to adapt to that. In my seven years here, we’re 6-1 against McGuffey. I’ll take that.”
