Lindquist scores 37 as W&J gets 2nd win

Junior forward Brian Lindquist scored a career-high 37 points and Washington & Jefferson doubled its season win total by beating Chatham 75-58 in a Presidents’ Athletic Conference game Saturday at Henry Memorial Center.

Lindquist helped W&J overcome a two-point halftime deficit and keyed a pivotal 15-0 run early in the second half that enabled the Presidents to improve their record to 2-12 in the PAC and 2-19 overall.

The Presidents led by as many as 14 points in the first half before Chatham, sparked by a 10-0 run took a 33-31 lead into halftime. Lindquist, however, scored the first 10 points in W&J’s 15-0 run that opened a 52-35 lead. The Presidents led by as many as 20 points in the second half.

Lindquist made 16 of 21 shots from the field and was 5-for-6 at the free-throw line. He also dominated on the glass, grabbing a game-high 11 rebounds.

Sean Stinelli scored 15 points for W&J and Jonathan Devito had 11.

Logan Hunter led Chatham (4-10, 8-13) with 18 points. The Cougars have lost six in a row.

Westminster 75, Waynesburg 70:

Cameron Kane-Johnson’s three-pointer with 1:27 remaining gave Westminster the lead for good as the Titans defeated Waynesburg 75-70 in a PAC game at Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse.

Kane-Johnson’s three put Westminster (10-4, 14-7) ahead 68-65. A basket by Waynesburg guard Timmy Kaiser pulled Waynesburg to within one point, but Westminster’s Austin Atwood answered with three-point to give the Titans a 71-67 lead with only 34 seconds remaining.

Waynesburg (4-10, 6-15), which has 10 of its last 12, led by as many as 10 points early in the game. The Yellow Jackets had a game-high 21 points from Marcus Wallace, 17 from Jon Knab and 11 from Brennan Smith.

Kane-Johnson led four Westminster players in double figures with 16 points.

Women’s results

Wash & Jeff 63, Chatham 59:

Danielle Parker and Danni Medovich combined for 34 points and Washington & Jefferson extended its winning streak to five games with a 63-59 victory over Chatham in the PAC.

Parker scored 19 points and Medovich had 15 points and five assists to help W&J remain in sole possession of second place in the conference at 11-3 and 14-7 overall. The Presidents won the game with a big third quarter. After leading 30-24 at halftime, W&J outscored Chatham 27-20 in the third quarter to open a 13-point advantage.

Chatham (5-9, 10-10), which received a game-high 22 points from Katelyn Sieg, outscored W&J 10-2 over the final five minutes to make the final score close.

Rachel Bellhy scored 12 points and grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds for the Presidents.

Westminster 65, Waynesburg 58:

Brooke Lyczek came off the bench and scored a career-high 16 points as Westminster defeated slumping Waynesburg 65-58 in a PAC game at Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse.

Lyczek made five of shots including of her three-point attempts as Westminster improved to 4-10 in the conference and 9-12 overall. Waynesburg, which has lost two in a row and three of five, fell to 8-6, 12-9.

Waynesburg led 17-14 after one quarter but Westminster outscored the Yellow Jackets 33-22 over the next two quarters to take an eight-point lead. Waynesburg closed to within one points three times, the last at 57-56 with 1:11 remaining. Lyczek then cut short the Yellow Jackets’ comeback by making a pivotal three-pointer.

Addy Knetzer was Waynesburg’s leading scorer with 15 points and Haley Delaney had 12. The Yellow Jackets were unable to overcome 22 turnovers and shooting only 25 percent in the second half.
