The Mid Mon Valley All Sports Hall of Fame will hold its 24th annual banquet and induction ceremonies June 16 at the St. Spyridon Hellenic Center in Monessen.

The selection committee has chosen six inductees for the Class of 2017: Don Bartolomucci, Phil Hughes, Joe Margoneri, Scott Nedrow, Daryle Ruby and Joe Salvino.

General Chairman of the Sports Hall of Fame Steve Russell is excited about this class.

“This class represents the very fabric of what our region represents,” he said. “We are honored to put in such a hard-working class.”

Bartolomucci was a rare four-year running back in the 1950s at Brownsville High School before receiving numerous honors at Waynesburg College. He followed his playing career as a head coach at Beth-Center and Brownsville. His teams made nine WPIAL playoff appearances.

Hughes rushed for 3,217 yards and scored 257 points in three years for the Charleroi Cougars and was first team all-state as a senior. Hughes, who also excelled in basketball and track, graduated from Charleroi in 1971 and received a football scholarship to Potomac State in West Virginia.

A left-handed pitcher, Margoneri played for the New York Giants in 1956 and 1957, and had a career record of 7-7. He is a 1948 graduate of South Huntington High School, which is now part of the Yough School District.

A basketball player, Nedrow was an important part of Ringgold’s 1972-73 WPIAL championship team. As a senior, he was all-section and all-WPIAL, and he also played in the Dapper Dan Roundball Classic.

Nedrow played two years at Pitt, averaging 6.1 points per game and served as co-captain for the 1977-78 season.

A 1961 Bellmar High School graduate, Ruby was an all-section, all-WPIAL, and all-state team for the Hurricanes and played for the Fayette County All-Stars. In 67 career basketball games for Pitt, Ruby averaged 7.7 points per game and as the team’s senior captain.

Salvino will be a rare active member of the Hall of Fame. He has 620 victories as the head coach of the Monessen boys basketball team. He has led the Greyhound juggernaut to five WPIAL titles and two PIAA championships. During his coaching career, which dates back to 1984, Salvino’s teams have never missed the playoffs.

Chairman of the Mid Mon Valley All Sports Hall of Fame Dennis Stitch is thrilled with the class.

“The selection committee did a tremendous job in evaluating the outstanding list of candidates for the class of 2017,” he said.

The selection committee includes Russell, Stitch, Chairman Brian Herman, Carl Crawley, Dale Hamer, Bill Hughes, Tom Jenkins, Bill Kubin, Randy Marino, and Stan Milchovich.
