Burgettstown starts slow, falls at Carlynton
One night after clinching a WPIAL playoff berth, Burgettstown stepped out of section and ran into another Class AAA postseason qualifier, losing 57-44 to Carlynton on the Cougars’ home court Wednesday.
After defeating Brownsville Tuesday to assure themselves of the playoff berth, the Blue Devils had a slow start against Carlynton. The Cougars built a 14-4 lead after one quarter and maintained an advantage the rest of the way.
Courtney Mickens led Carlynton (11-11) with 16 points and Chris Harris tallied 11.
Reid Reitter paced Burgettstown (10-11) with 14 points.
Frazier 82, Jefferson-Morgan 67: J.D. Celaschi scored 22 points and Frazier rode a big second quarter to an 82-67 victory over Jefferson-Morgan in a nonsection game in Perryopolis.
Frazier (6-16) outscored the Rockets 23-8 in the second quarter to open a 43-29 lead in the foul-filled game. The teams combined to attempt 64 free throws.
Josh Cox also had a big game for Frazier, scoring 18 points.
Jaylin Torres of Jefferson-Morgan (4-16) took game scoring honors with 27 points. DL Garrett followed with 17 for the Rockets and Gage Clark tossed in 15.
