Wheatcroft pulls out of tournament
Citing an illness that left him with painful blisters on his hands and feet, Washington native and Trinity High School graduate Steve Wheatcroft was forced to pull out of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am Saturday.
Wheatcroft, who earned $601,164 last year on the PGA Tour, had shot 75 and 76 in his first two rounds and said on his Twitter feed that the pain became too great.
“Hate to WD from pebble, but caught the virus my son had last week & can’t play thru it anymore,” Wheatcroft tweeted. “Rash and blisters all over hands and feet. Feel fine, but just can’t walk 18 holes because of foot pain.”
Wheatcroft’s withdrawl came just one day after he ripped Tiger Woods for doing the same when he pulled out of the Omega Dubai Desert Classic because of back spasams.
“Hey Tiger,” Wheatcroft tweeted, “fat doesn’t spasm. Stay out of the gym, knock back some beers and burgers, and get your butt back out here soon! #goat.”
Wheatcroft addressed that tweet in his own announcement of his withdrawl.
“Yes I see the irony after my Tiger tweet,” Wheatcroft wrote. “Hoping it heals in time to qualify for LA.”
Qualifying for Genesis Open at Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles begins Monday.
