South Fayette upends Canon-Mac
CANONSBURG – Sam Kosmacki scored eight of her 17 points in a decisive 14-7 third quarter run as South Fayette defeated Canon-McMillan, 55-48, in a non-section high school girls game Monday between two playoff-bound teams.
Jordyn Caputo added 12 points for Section 1-5A champion South Fayette (16-5) in a game that was tied 21-21 at the half.
Cheyenne Trest scored 16 points, Izzy Allen 13 and Tamara Mathis 11 for Canon-McMillan (8-14), the fourth-place tea out of Section 3-6A.
Avella 49, Springdale 18: Grace Lengauer’s 16 points led Avella to a 49-18 non-section win over Springdale.
Bailey Lis added 11 points for the Eagles (11-11), who overcame a slow start with a 19-4 run in the second quarter.
Springdale finishes its season at 0-17.
Washington 44, McGuffey 28: Torri Finley scored a game-high 18 points to lead Washington to a 44-28 victory over McGuffey in a non-section game.
Carly Allen chipped in with nine points for the Prexies (12-10), who led 33-17 at halftime.
Dani Fischer scored 11 and Mikayla Maxwell added 10 for the Highlanders (3-18).
Charleroi 67, West Greene 53: Maria Claybaugh and Kaitlyn Riley each scored eight points in the fourth quarter to secure a 67-53 victory over West Greene in a non-section game.
Riley scored a game-high 32 points for the Cougars (18-4), who outscored the Pioneers, 19-9, in the fourth quarter. Sierra Short had a double-double, 17 points and 11 rebounds. Maria Claybaugh chipped in with 14.
Madison Lampe scored 22 points, Kaitlyn Rizor added 13 and Marissa Rode 10 for the Pioneers (18-4).
Norwin 53, Peters Township 50: Norwin repelled a late rally from Peters Township to gain a 53-50 victory in a non-section game.
The Indians (13-8) scored only 14 halftime points but 36 in the second. Makenna Marisa scored 16 points and Isabella Mills 12.
Danielle McMaster scored 16 points for Norwin (16-5), which was outscored 36-26 in the second half.
