Cal U. women sweep past UPJ
The California University women’s basketball team allowed Pitt-Johnstown just seven points in the second quarter Wednesday on the way to an 88-58 win at the Convocation Center in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference West play.
The No. 3 Vulcans extended their winning streak to 13 games and have a 24-1 overall record and 18-1 league mark. The Vulcans stretched their lead in the PSAC West standings to two games, as second-place IUP was idle Wednesday. Meanwhile, the Lady Cats fell to 7-19 this season behind a 3-17 record in conference play.
Senior Miki Glenn paced the offense with 28 points on 10 of 17 shooting from the floor, including four of seven from beyond the arc. She also added three rebounds, two assists and four steals while playing just 30 minutes. Glenn has now scored at least 20 points in 11 games this year while averaging 18.8 points per game.
Junior Seairra Barrett added 25 points on 7 of 14 from the field and 11 of 14 from the free-throw line. She also added eight rebounds (four offensive) and four steals, and senior Precious Martin collected a game-high nine rebounds along with five assists and five steals in the win.
A 10-1 run by Cal closed the half with a 47-20 lead. The Vulcans extended their lead to 58-22 to start the second half.
Junior Olivia McCabe and sophomore Laurel O’Barto each led the Lady Cats with 10 points and McCabe added eight rebounds in the loss.

Pitt-Johnstown 88, Cal 67: Isaac Vescovi scored 20 points to lead two other players in double figures as Pitt-Johnstown stopped Cal, 88-67, at the Convocation Center in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference West play.
Dale Clancy had 17 and A.J. Leahey 15 for UPJ (11-9, 16-10).
Rob Teckle paced three other players in double figures with 15 points for Cal (6-13, 9-16). Cordell Smith had 13, Nick Miller 11 and Luka Andjusic 10.
