W&J has Moore and an OT win

Amirah Moore’s 18-foot jumper from the left wing with 16 seconds remaining in overtime gave Washington & Jefferson the lead for good Tuesday night as the Presidents outlasted host Grove City 75-73 in a Presidents’ Athletic Conference women’s basketball game.

Moore, who scored 14 points and had eight assists, scored off a handoff from Danielle Parker to give W&J a 74-72 lead. Grove City’s Mary Ehrbar was fouled and made the first of two free throws with five seconds remaining. Ehrbar, however, missed the second free throw and W&J’s Mia Woytovich snagged the rebound.

Following a timeout, Moore made the second of two free throws for the two-point margin of victory that improved W&J’s record to 4-0 in the PAC and 7-4 overall. The Presidents are tied for first place with Thomas More (4-0, 11-0).

Parker led W&J in scoring and rebounding. She had a double-double with a game-high 26 points and 10 rebounds. Parker made 10 of 17 shots.

Mya Gordon had 11 points for W&J.

Grove City (1-3, 5-6) led by nine points midway through the third quarter before W&J mounted a comeback. The Wolverine were led by Lexie Arkwright with 24 points. Kate Balcom had 15 points, Laura Buchanan 12 and McKenzie Black with 10.

California 87, Gannon 56: California, ranked No. 8 in NCAA Division II, bounced back from its first loss of the season by routing Gannon 87-56 at the Hammermill Center in Erie.

California (6-1, 12-1) took control of the game in the first half, building a 14-point lead by halftime.

Senior point guard Miki Glenn had a big game, scoring a game-high 29 points on 11 of 18 shooting. She also had nine assists, three rebounds and two steals. Glenn was 3-for-7 from three-point range.

The Vulcans had four players score in double figures. Shatara Parsons had 15 points, Seairra Barrett 13 and Anney Sporio 11. Cal shot 53 percent from the field.

Gannon (3-4, 3-10), which held only one lead, at 2-0, was led by Maggie Mitchell’s 16 points.

Grove City 70, Wash & Jeff 52: Andrew Beckman scored 17 points and Nate Peters had 15 as Grove City kept Washington & Jefferson winless, defeating the Presidents 70-52 in a PAC game.

Grove City (1-2, 5-5) moved to the .500 mark overall while W&J fell to 0-3, 0-10.

Brian Garytok led W&J with 13 points and Brian Lindquist hit double figures with 11.

Gannon 93, California 88, OT: California wiped out a 16-point halftime deficit but fell to Gannon 93-88 in overtime in a PSAC West Division game. The Golden Knights outscored Cal 16-11 in the extra session.

The Vulcans fall to 0-7 in the conference and 3-10 overall. Gannon moves to .500 at 3-3, 5-5.

Gannon won despite a 31-point performance by Cal’s Robel Teckle, who made 11 of 15 shots. Teckler scored 23 points in the second half. Gannon led 49-33 at halftime.

Zay Jackson led Gannon with 28 points and 10 rebounds.
