Bethel Park bounces back, beats C-M

After leading throughout the entire first half and most of the third quarter, Canon-McMillan failed to stop Bethel Park’s Cameron Lach and the Big Macs fell to their Section 3, Class 6-A rival 56-49 Thursday night at Bethel Park High School.

Canon-McMillan (6-6, 2-2) took a 22-21 lead into halftime, but surrendered its lead after being outscored in the third quarter.

After not recording any first-half points, Lach made four three-points in the final 16 minutes to aid her 19-point performance. Bethel Park (8-4, 2-2) was also led by Maria Cerro’s 16 points.

The Big Macs managed to have three players score in double-digits as Cheyenne Trest scored a team-high 14 points. Lindsay Beach and Izzy Allen scored 13 and 12 points, respectively.

Mapletown 47, Monessen 31: After taking firm command of the game after a 14-0 first quarter, Mapletown was able to use that impressive eight-minute stretch to defeat Monessen, 47-31, in a Section 2-A matchup at Monessen High School.

Despite not making any three-point field goals and only going 3-for-16 from the free-throw line as a team, Mapletown (4-8, 1-2) was able to lean on the scoring of Hannah Dingle, who led all scorers with 16 points.

Mapletown’s Kayla Smith recorded a double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds.

Scoring more than half of the Monessen (0-14, 0-4) field goals was Natalia Holmes, who had 15 points. Qitarah Hardison also reached double-digits for the Greyhounds with 10 points.

East Allegheny 70, McGuffey 30: Knowing it was going to have its hands full with East Allegheny, one of the few remaining undefeated teams left in the WPIAL, McGuffey didn’t help matters after falling behind 26-3 in the first quarter, before ultimately falling to the host, 70-30, in a Section 2-AAA contest.

East Allegheny (12-0, 5-0) outscored McGuffey in each of the final three quarters after being led by a 33-point effort from Armani Johnson. Cade Street and Mila Bortuluzzi also scored in double figures with 12 and 10 points, respectively.

McGuffey (1-11, 1-4) was paced two scorers with seven points, Mikalah Maxwell and McKenzie Dobrzynski.

West Greene 72, Geibel 39: A balanced West Greene attack had four players in double figures as it defeated Geibel, 72-39, in a Section 2-A matchup.

West Greene (10-2, 3-0) was led by Kaitlyn Rizor’s 19-point performance, while twins Madison and McKenna Lampe put up similar statistics with six field goals and 15 points each. Ashley Cumberledge was the final Pioneer in double-digits by scoring a career-high 12 points.

Pacing Geibel (5-6, 2-1) was 12 points from Grace Nowicki. Gillian Yourish also scored 10 points.

South Fayette 59, West Allegheny 37: A defensive effort from South Fayette that yielded single-digit totals in three of the four quarters led to the Lions taking command of Section 1 in Class 5-A by defeating West Allgheny 59-37.

South Fayette (8-3, 4-0) doubled the Indians total throughout the first three quarters, 46-23.

The balanced offense for the Lions was led by a game-high 13 points from Carlee Kilgus. Maddie Gutierrez and Jordyn Caputo each had 11 points, and Sam Kosmacki scored 10.

West Allegheny (7-5, 3-1) was paced by Hannah Lindenmuth and Melina Lynn each scoring nine points.

South Allegheny 45, Waynesburg 16: Offense didn’t come easy for Waynesburg as it only made four field goals and fell 45-16 to Section 2-AAA opponent South Allegheny.

Those made baskets were spread out among four different players for Waynesburg (1-9, 0-3) with Julianna Fowler leading it in scoring with five points.

South Allegheny (9-3, 3-2) was led by a game-high 11 points from Alyssa Kennedy.

Jefferson-Morgan 35, Avella 26: Despite recording five fewer field goals than Avella, Jefferson-Morgan made a living from the free-throw line by going 21 of 32 to defeat the Eagles 35-26 in Section 2-A.

J-M (6-8, 2-2) was led by Jamie Lawrence and Erin Confortini who combined for 15 made free throws. Lawrence finished with 12 points and Confortini had nine.

Avella (6-6, 2-1) failed to reach the double-digits in each quarter, but was led by eight points from Kodi Georgetti.

Burgettstown 47, Aliquippa 38: Kacie Prasko scored six of her 14 points in the third quarter to send Burgettstown past Aliquippa, 47-38, in a Section 1-AA game.

Emily Prasko scored 11 and Malia Castellino added 10 points for the Blue Devils (4-2, 9-3), who outscored the Quips, 15-4, in the third quarter.

Jazmin Walker led Aliquippa with 12 points.

Chartiers-Houston 56, New Brighton 20: Alexa Williamson scored a game-high 20 points to propel Chartiers-Houston past New Brighton, 56-20, in a Section 1-AA game.

Jala Walker added 14 points for the Bucs (6-0, 11-2). Libby Thomas had 12 for the Lions (1-5, 2-10).

Carmichaels 45, Jeannette 36: Three player reached double figures in scoring in Carmichaels’ 45-36 win over Jeannette in a Section 3-AA game.

Kylie Sinn led the way for the Mikes (2-3, 6-8) with 14 points. Kristina Aeschbacher added 11 and Megan Walker had 10.

Olivia Sirnic scored a game-high 25 points for Jeannette (2-5, 4-8).

California 57, Bentworth 21: California raced out to a 14-0 first-quarter lead and never looked back as the Trojans defeated Bentworth, 57-20, in a Section 3-AA game.

Jenna Miller led the way with 18 points and Love’ Porter added 14 for the Trojans (13-1, 4-1).

Rice scored 10 points for Bentworth (0-6, 0-12).

Keystone Oaks 52, Belle Vernon 50: Keystone Oaks rallied in the second half, wiping out a five-point Belle Vernon lead for a 52-50 win in a Section 3 game in Class 4-A.

Jaylen Hoffman had 16 points for KO (6-0, 10-2).

Caitlyn Trombley paced BV (3-2, 7-5) with 15 points.
