Wrestling roundup: McGuffey stays unbeaten in section, handles J-M
The McGuffey High School wrestling team remained undefeated in Class AA Section 2-A Friday night with a 64-16 victory over host Jefferson-Morgan in a match that was rescheduled from earlier this season.
The Highlanders won all but three of the weight classes with two of Jefferson-Morgan’s victories coming via forfeit. McGuffey won two of the first bouts, including a pin by Jett Pattison at 132 pounds, and then strung together eight consecutive wins. Jeff McConn (152), Bryton Johnson (160), Marshall Mounts (195) and Ed Shingle (heavyweight) also had pins for the Highlanders.
Two-time PIAA champion Gavin Teasdale (126) of Jefferson-Morgan received a forfeit to begin the match.
• Peters Township overcame an 18-0 deficit to come back and beat North Hills, 35-33, in a non-section match.
With the match starting at 182, North Hills won the first four bouts, including getting a pin at 220 from Brian Fulton, but Bryce Wiltz, Colton Jeziorom Dan Florentino and Luke Mary had pins to help the Indians (4-1) overcome the deficit.
