Washington runs winning streak to 6

Matt Popeck scored 24 points as Washington won its second game in less than 24 hours, defeating visiting Seton-La Salle 57-48 in a nonsection contest Saturday afternoon.

The win was the sixth in a row for Washington (9-3).

Seton-La Salle (4-9) led 15-14 after one quarter but Wash High forged a 25-22 halftime advantage and was able to prevent the Rebels from threatening in the second half. The Little Prexies led 35-30 after three quarters and secured the win with a 22-point fourth quarter.

In two games this weekend, against Seton-La Salle and Beth-Center, Wash High outscored its opponents 44-9 in the second quarter.

In addition to Popeck’s big game, Isaiah Robinson gave Wash High a solid 1-2 scoring punch by tossing in 15 points.

Mike Biglay led Seton-La Salle with 14 points, Matt Banberry had 12 and Nick Deans 11.

Trinity 91, Waynesburg 58: Trinity had its offense clicking in a 91-58 victory at Waynesburg in a nonsection game.

The Hillers (7-6) scored at least 21 points in each quarter and made 12 three-point field goals.

Thirteen different Trinity players were in the scoring column, led by Joey Koroly with 21 points. Jaden Nelson followed with 15 points, Dylan Kern scored all of his 12 points from behind the three-point line and Zach Ecker eight points and a team-high 10 rebounds. The Hillers led 42-27 at halftime.

Darton McIntire scored a game-high 23 points to lead Waynesburg (1-12).

First Love 74, Capital 72: First Love Christian Academy was a 74-72 winner over Capital of Charleston, W.Va., in the Buffalo Wild Wings Classic in Pikeville, Ky.

Chartiers-Houston 69, Brownsville 30: Alexa Williamson scored a game-high 20 points, Jules Vulcano and Madison Simpson each had career highs in points and Chartiers-Houston cruised to its sixth win a row, 69-30, at Brownsville in a nonsection game.

Vulcano tossed in 17 points including the Bucs’ two three-point field goals, and Simpson finished with 13 points as C-H (12-2) put four players in double figures. Jala Walker had 14 points as the Bucs dominated from the opening tip and led 40-8 at halftime.

Alie Seto scored 13 points for Brownsville (5-9).

Shenango 41, Washington 30: Chaslin Hoover scored 16 points and the production from three-point and free-throw lines was the difference as host Shenango defeated Washington 41-30 in a Section 1-AA game.

Washington (3-3, 6-6) had one more field goal than Shenango (2-4, 4-9) but the Prexies did not make a three-point shot and were 0-for-8 at the free-throw line. Shenango, meanwhile, had six three-pointers and made seven of 11 free throws.

Randi Thomas was the leading scorer for Washington with 12 points.
