Girls basketball roundup: Chartiers-Houston’s Walker nets 1,000th in win
Jala Walker scored 19 points, including the 1,000th of her high school career, as Chartiers-Houston extended its winning streak to seven games with a 51-13 victory over visiting Fort Cherry Monday night in Section 1-AA.
Chartiers-Houston (7-0, 13-2) remained in first place in the section and hosts second-place Our Lady of Scared Heart on Thursday.
The Bucs led 22-0 after one quarter against Fort Cherry (2-5, 5-7). Walker scored her 1,000th early in the quarter and finished the night with 1,015 career points.
Alexa Williamson scored 17 points for C-H.
Burgettstown 46, Washington 37: Kacie Prasko tossed in 21 points and Burgettstown held Washington to 13 combined points in the second and third quarters during a 46-37 victory in Section 1-AA.
Burgettstown moved to 10-3, 5-2 in the section.
Carly Allen’s 17 points paced Wash High (3-4, 6-7), which trailed 17-9 at halftime.
West Greene 73, Avella 52: Three players scored in double figures to lead West Greene to a 73-52 win over Avella in a Section 2-A game.
McKenna Lampe scored 22 points for the Pioneers (4-0, 11-2). Kaitlyn Rizor added 18 points and Madison Lampe 10.
Kodi Georgetti scored 11 points and Bailey Lis 10 for the Eagles (2-2, 6-7).
Elizabeth Forward 75, Belle Vernon 47: Brianna Spirnak and Julia Jenkins combined for 42 points to lead Elizabeth Forward to a 75-47 win over Belle Vernon in a Section 3 game in Class 4-A game.
Spirnak scored 22 and Jenkins 20 for EF (4-3, 7-8). Taylor Kovatch led Belle Vernon (3-3, 7-6) with 15 points.
Charleroi 73, McGuffey 18: Maria Claybaugh scored 16 points to help send Charleroi past McGuffey, 73-18, in a Section 2-AAA game.
Caitlyn Riley chipped in with 15 and Sierra short 14 for the Cougars (4-1, 10-3), who led 42-10 at halftime.
Mikayla Maxwell’s six points led the Highlanders (1-5, 1-12).
Serra 54, Carmichaels 42: Aaliyah Coleman scored 17 points to help power Serra to a 54-42 victory over Carmichaels in a Section 3-AA game.
Rayna Andrews added 13 points and Gigi Mele-Madigan 11 for Serra (3-4, 6-6), which led 31-21 at halftime.
Kristina Aeschbacher scored 14 points for Carmichaels (2-4, 6-9).
South Fayette remained undefeated in Class 5-A Section 1 with a 71-62 victory over Chartiers Valley. The Lions are 5-0 in section and 9-3 overall.
