CornBelters ends Wild Things’ winning streak
NORMAL, Ill. – Aaron Dudley’s two-run homer was part of a three-run bottom of the fifth inning and sparked the Normal CornBelters to a 6-4 victory over the Wild Things Tuesday night at The Corn Crib.
The loss snapped Washington’s three-game winning streak.
Dudley’s home run, his sixth of the season, gave Normal a 4-3 lead and came off Washington starter Brian O’Keefe (2-3). Before the inning ended, the CornBelters would make it 5-3 on a run-scoring double by Justin Fletcher.
Normal led the rest of the way as Scott Sebald improved his record to 5-1 by striking out seven in seven innings. Shawn Blackwell, who spent two years as a starting pitcher with Washington, got the final five outs for his seventh save.
Washington took a 2-0 lead in the third inning when Rashad Brown hit a two-run triple. Normal answered with a run in the bottom of the inning, but Washington made it 3-1 in the fourth as a single by Kenny Peoples-Walls scored Kyle Pollock. Peoples-Walls had three of Washington’s six hits.
Normal scored one run in the fourth and took the lead with the big fifth inning.
Washington pulled to within 5-4 in the eighth when Justin Bohn hit his first home run of the season, but Normal scored its final run in the bottom of the inning. All six CornBelters runs scored on two-out hits.
