EVANSVILLE, Ind. – After taking and surrendering a four-run lead early, Washington rallied in the seventh inning to defeat Evansville 7-6 in the opening game of a weekend series at Bosse Field Friday night.

Trailing by one run entering the seventh inning, 6-5, Hector Roa’s single scored Kane Sweeney to tie the game.

Kenny Peoples-Walls then hit a sacrifice fly to give the Things another lead, one it wouldn’t surrender.

After Trevor Foss (8-3) allowed six runs for Washington, the most he has given up since May 30, the Things’ bullpen rose to the occasion.

Davis Adkins threw scoreless seventh and eighth innings before handing it over to Zach Strecker, who earned his 14th save.

Evansville relief pitcher Jason Broussard didn’t have a night to remember.

Only lasting a few minutes, and recording a lone out, Broussard blew the lead the Otters obtained in the middle innings.

Rashad Brown led Washington with three hits, while Bralin Jackson, Mike Hill, Sweeney and Roa each had two.

The Things have combined for 38 hits and 26 runs over their last three games.
