Belle Vernon pitcher Parshall receives another honor
Receiving honors is nothing new for Belle Vernon High School softball pitcher Bailey Parshall.
After all, the senior-to-be lefty accepted a scholarship offer to play at Penn State before she even reached the Leopards’ varsity.
Recently, Parshall was named the state Class 4-A Co-Player of the Year, along with junior Hannah Garber from Lampeter Strasberg, by the Pennsylvania High School Softball Association.
”It is always an honor to be recognized considering the collection of talent in the state,” Parshall said. “I work extremely hard at what I do and an honor like this shows that the hard work pays off.”
This past season, Parshall helped lead the Leopards to their second WPIAL softball championship in the last three years. Parshall had a 20-2 record with an 0.51 ERA. She threw three no-hitters among her 10 shutouts, struck out 246 batters in 149 innings and gave up only 11 earned runs as opposing batters hit a miniscule .121 against her.
In just three years, Parshall has set Belle Vernon school records for wins (56), strikeouts (673) and shutouts (26) while her career ERA is a 0.94.
Parshall is anything but a one-dimensional player as she led the Leopards with a .551 batting average last season with 25 RBI and 12 doubles.
She is a career .470 hitter with 31 doubles, two triples, a pair of home runs and has a .660 slugging percentage.
Parshall flew to Huntington Beach, Calif., Friday for the Premier Girls Fastpitch national championship. The event will host the largest collection of potential Division I players in the nation for one tournament and more than 300 college coaches will be in attendance.
For Parshall, it gives her a chance to improve on what she has been doing.
”I have been working on tweaking a few of my pitches,” she said. “I look forward to seeing how it goes and to keep on getting ready for next season.”
