Roa hits 2 home runs in Wild Things victory
SAUGET, Ill. – Hector Roa hit two home runs and pitcher Ethan Gibbons won in his Wild Things debut as Washington defeated the Gateway Grizzlies 6-1 Saturday night at GCS Ballpark.
Roa hit a three-run homer in the fourth inning that gave Washington a 4-1 lead. His two-run homer in the seventh capped the scoring. Roa went 3-for-5 with five RBI. He is tied for the team lead with 12 home runs on the season.
Gibbons (6-4), who was acquired earlier this week when Washington claimed him off waivers from Southern Illinois, allowed four hits and one run – a first-inning solo homer by Joel McKeithan – over six innings. He walked one. Davis Adkins pitched three scoreless and hitless innings of relief for his first save.
Washington’s first run scored when first baseman Kane Sweeney hit a solo home run, his 11th of the season, in the first inning. Sweeney was 3-for-4 and cather Kyle Pollock led the Wild Things’ 12-hit attack by going 4-for-4.
