Wild Things win with 9th-inning grand slam
O’FALLON, Mo. – Mike Hill hit a grand slam with two outs in the top of the ninth inning to give the Wild Things an 11-9 victory over the River City Rascals Wednesday night at CarShield Field.
Washington overcame a seven-run deficit to win. River City scored five times in the fifth inning to take an 8-1 lead.
Hill’s home run was his second of the game. He homered during the Wild Things’ five-run sixth inning.
Bralin Jackson homered for the second consecutive night. His two-run shot started the Wild Things’ comeback, and before the sixth inning ended Hector Roa and Hill hit back-to-back homers to cut River City’s lead to 8-6.
The Rascals led 9-7 entering the ninth but a walk to Rashad Brown and singles by Jackson and Roa loaded the bases with two outs. Hill’s game-winning home run was an opposite field shot and came off Clint Freeman, who was the seventh River City pitcher of the game. Stephen Swagerty (0-2) was the losing pitcher.
Zach Strecker (4-0) pitched two scoreless innings of relief to get the win.
