Wild Things slammed by Florence

FLORENCE, Ky. – Jose Brizuela hit a grand slam during Florence’s six-run sixth inning and the Freedom defeated the Wild Things 9-3 Saturday night at UC Health Stadium.

Florence increased its Frontier League-leading record to 18-8. The Wild Things dropped to .500 at 13-13 and have lost four of five on its six-game road trip.

The game was tied 3-3 in the sixth before Florence scored the go-ahead run on a bases-loaded balk. Four batters later, Brizuela hit his grand slam off reliever Jordan Schwartz. It was Brizuela’s fifth home run of the season.

Jordan Kraus (5-1), who played his college baseball at Wheeling Jesuit, threw a seven-hit complete game with seven strikeouts. Rashad Brown had two of Washington hits along with an RBI and run. Kyle Pollock also had two hits.

Trevor Belicek (1-3) was the losing pitcher in his first relief appearance of the season.
