Baseball: Luketich has grand time for Cal
Nathaniel Luketich went 5-for-5 with a grand slam and drove in six runs as California downed Mt. Pleasant, 13-5 in a non-section game.
Luketich also scored three times and stole a base. Johnny DeFranco tripled, singled, drove in two and stole a base. Drake Johnson threw the first complete game of his career and it was under 80 pitches.
• Carmichaels took advantage of 14 walks by Mapletown piitching to come away withe a three-inning 16-1 victory.
Dylan Wilson doubled and drove in three runs for the Mikes. Cody Brown and Joel Spishock each scored three runs.
• Nate Higham went 3-for-4, drove in three and scored twice to help Fort Cherry to a 15-3, five-inning victory over Sto-Rox in a non-section game.
Higham struck out nine and walked five for the Rangers, who benfitted from 14 walks and a hit batter.
• Josh Hughes struck out five, walked two and drove in two runs to propel Bentworth to a 5-3 win over Monessen in a non-section game.
Mat Skolyak drove in two runs, Riley Nickerson went 2-for-3 and scored a run and Jacob Maimone doubled for the Bearcats (1-1). Antonio Khone doubled for Monessen (0-1).
Jordan Reeves had three hits and scored four runs as McGuffey outlasted Waynesburg, 10-8, in a non-section high school boys baseball game.
Matt Novak had a double and drove in four runs for the Highlanders (1-1). Reliever Adam Blaharczyk pitched five innings to get the win. Lane Wilkeson threw the final two innings to get the save.
Trey Rohanna doubled and drove in three runs for Waynesburg (1-1).
• Courtney Mickens doubled and Carlynton scored seven runs in the fifth and sixth innings to beat Washington, 8-3, in a non-section game.
Nathan Bickens picked up the win for the Cougars (3-0).
Cooper Sharp doubled and Steven Shallcross took the loss for the Prexies (1-1).
• Deven Judy and Jake Amatangelo combined to allowed just one run and strike out nine as Belle Vernon edged Thomas Jeferson, 3-1, in a non-section game.
Jacob Callaway doubled and Evan Johnston drove in two runs for the Leopards (1-1).
Luke Warhole had two doubles and Luke Gallioto had one for Thomas Jefferson (0-1).
• Charleroi exploded for nine runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to beat Frazier, 10-0, in a non-section game. No further details were made available.
