Softball: Rangers remain undefeated
Bailey Griffith and Kayla Salvini both hit two doubles as Fort Cherry improved to 2-0 with a 10-1 non-section win over Jefferson-Morgan Thursday in a high school softball game.
Erin Garry homered and Harley Heintz tripled for the Rangers, who won just two games last season, to back the pitching of Chloe Smith.
Caitlyn Dugan took the loss for the Rockets (1-1).
• Polk County, Tenn., scored all seven of its runs in the first three innings in a 7-5 non-section win over Waynesburg in a game played in Pigeon Ford, Tenn.
Tara Staley had four hits, Jordan Sibert three and Bailee Shimek tripled for the Raiders (1-1), who also scored all of their runs in the first three innings.
Winning pitcher Aubrie Bowman doubled for Polk County.
• Chartiers-Houston pounded out 17 hits, including three each by Brittany Blumen and Jessica Ford, as the Bucs defeated Riverside, 15-3, in a non-section game.
Ford and Lauren Lober both doubled twice, while Blumen and Kaci Alderson added one each for the Bucs (5-0).
• Rebecca Staley tripled and Ashley Gush and Kalsie Walker both doubled as California outlasted Mapletown, 10-9, in a Section 2-A game.
Bre Trusler picked up the win for the Trojans (1-1, 1-2).
Taylor Vanata homered, Sara Chory tripled and losing pitcher Abby McIntire doubled for Mapletown (0-1, 0-2).
• Bailey Parshall threw a two-hitter as Belle Vernon defeated West Mifflin, 9-0, in a Section 2-AAAA game.
Parshall, who struck out seven, tripled and drove in two runs, while Jordan French homered, Alex Sokol doubled and Kourtney Gavatorta had three hits for Belle Vernon (2-0, 4-0).
Annalise Modrick took the loss for West Mifflin (0-2, 2-2).
