Rockets win section title by beating GC Catholic
Jefferson-Morgan clinched the Section 2-A title with a thrilling 10-8 win over second-place Greensburg Central Catholic.
Winning pitcher Gage Clark went 2-for-2 with a double and four RBI for the Rockets (11-1, 11-5). Isaac Dean had a three-run home run and four RBI. Clark struck out five in raising his record to 6-0.
Ethan Bailey doubled for GCC (9-3, 9-4).
• Cody Koteles drove in the winning run with a single in the bottom of the ninth inning to give Charleroi a 3-2 win over Waynesburg in a Section 3-AAA game. Both teams are playoff bound.
Trey Rohanna broke a 1-1 tie in the top of the eighth for Waynesburg (9-3, 12-4) but Charleroi (6-6, 11-6) scored in the bottom of the inning on an error.
Hunter Robinson struck out 11 in a losing effort and winning pitcher Emery Ander had 10 in 6 1/3 innings of relief.
• Owen English had three hits and three RBI to help Avella stop Mapletown, 8-4, in a non-section game.
Dalton Simonelli doubled and drove in a run for the Eagles (6-10). R.J. Durr had three hits and scored a run for Mapletown (4-13).
• Dylan Dingle hit three doubles and drove in four runs to push Beth-Center past Burgettstown, 8-7, in a Section 1-AA game.
Ty Zelenick added a double for the Bulldogs (4-10, 4-13). Cody Haspel had a double and two RBI for Burgettstown (2-12, 2-14). Evan Bates and Hunter Ayers each hit a double.
• Frazier’s Trevor Hayes pitched a three-hit shutout and Tyler Dorcon drove in four runs as the Commodores blanked Fort Cherry 10-0 in a six-inning Section 1-AA game.
Hayes struck out six and issued only one walk, and he benefitted from a pair of four-inning innings by the Commodores (5-9, 5-11).
Cameron Schaub struck out eight over 5 2/3 innings for Fort Cherry (4-10, 7-11). Brandon DePaoli hit a double.
• Ringgold scored early and late to take a 7-2 victory from Yough in a non-section game.
Anthony Pampena went 3-for-3, knocked in three and scored twice for the Rams (13-5), who scored three runs in the first and three more in the sixth. Luke Winterbottom drove in two runs.
Yough fell to 8-10.
• Jake Seitz had two doubles and four RBI to lead Carlynton past Fort Cherry in a non-section game.
Courtney Mickens and Andrew Clark each had a double for the Cougars (15-5).
Max Paterni went 3-for-5 with a double and three RBI for the Rangers (7-12). Cam Schaub had a double and three RBI and Nate Higham doubled.
• Ellwood City got all its runs in the second inning, downing McGuffey, 6-2, in a non-section game.
The Wolverines took advantage of four McGuffey errors to score six unearned runs.
Mike Novak had a double for McGuffey (8-12).
