Franklin Regional used two big innings to defeat Ringgold, 10-1, in a Class 5-A first-round game Tuesday night on the turf at Latrobe.

The Panthers (14-5) scored six runs in the thirds inning and four in the sixth. Franklin Regional will play Moon in the quarterfinals.

Ringgold, which had its most successful season since 2004, had its year end with a 10-9 record.

The Rams scored the game’s first run as a groundout by Loren Gohacki drove in Nya Adams.

In other games: Burgettstown threw a mighty scare into top-seeded South Side Beaver in Class AA before the Rams pulled out a 4-3 victory. The teams had met last week in a nonsection game with SSB winning 16-0.
