It was the first playoff victory for Burgettstown since they defeated Beth-Center, 7-6, in 1977.

The game close throughout, tied 14-14 at halftime and 21-21 after three quarters.

Burgettstown (7-3), which snapped a three-game losing losing streak, forged a 28-21 lead when quarterback Ryan Lounder connected with Cyle Conley for a 33-yard touchdown pass with less than six minutes remaining.

Neshannock (6-5), aided by a personal foul penalty against the Blue Devils, answered less than two minutes later to tie the score at 28-28 and set up Burgettstown’s game-winning drive that was capped by Phillips’ clutch kick.

Lounder had a big game as he threw three touchdowns passes and ran for a 28-yard score. Lounder’s TD passes went to Cole Strain, Jarred John and Conley.

Burgettstown will play top-seeded Steel Valley in the quarterfinals.
