Cal controls 3rd quarter, defeats Edinboro
EDINBORO – An Edinboro fumble, a Luke Smorey touchdown reception and two Will Brazill field goals in the third quarter allowed California to pull away and defeat the Fighting Scots 30-13 in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference game Saturday afternoon at Sox Harrison Stadium.
After Cal took a 17-13 lead into halftime, junior defensive back Brendan Edwards forced a fumble recovered by the Vulcans’ DeVonte Suber, who returned it to the Edinboro three-yard line.
Cal quarterback Michael Keir then found Smorey open in the end zone to give the Vulcans a 24-13 lead with 12:34 left in the third quarter.
Brazill then knocked in field goals of 34 and 19 yards to push Cal’s lead to 17 points, 30-13, before the scoreless fourth quarter.
Smorey led all receivers with seven catches for 124 yards and his lone touchdown.
Edinboro quarterback Jake Sisson completed 16 of 33 passes for 131 yards and two touchdowns.
