West, Zubik shine as W&J downs Geneva

BEAVER FALLS – Jesse Zubik had eight catches for 115 yards and Jordan West ran for 154 yards and three touchdowns as Washington & Jefferson defeated Geneva 31-17 in a Presidents’ Athletic Conference game Saturday afternoon.

Zubik, the senior wide receiver, sits at 4,264 career receiving yards and Saturday’s game marked the 21st time to eclipse the 100-yard mark in a single game.

After Geneva, 2-4 in the PAC and 3-6 overall, opened the scoring with a 32-yard field goal from Andrew Dowler, the Presidents then scored the next 17 points, including two touchdowns from West less than three minutes apart in the middle of the second quarter.

Geneva scored with 10 seconds left in the first half on a Bryan Stafford 17-yard pass to Nick Monteleone to cut the halftime deficit, 17-10.

W&J, 7-0 in the conference and 9-0 overall, pulled away in the fourth quarter when West on a three-yard touchdown from West. Running back EJ Thompson then added a 23-yard run with just over a minute left to put the Presidents up 31-10.

West, a Washington High School graduate, tied a personal best in his rushing total while the three touchdowns set a career high.

W&J head coach Mike Sirianni earned his 137th victory, tying him atop the career wins list with former Presidents’ coach John Luckhardt.

The Presidents will finish the regular season next Saturday against Waynesburg at 1 p.m. at Cameron Stadium.
