Boys soccer roundup: Selvoski scores 2 as Bentworth gets road win

Bentworth controlled the second half and pulled away for a 4-1 victory over host Brentwood in Section 4-A Thursday afternoon.

The Bearcats held steady in second place in the section at 7-3 and 9-4 overall. Brentwood is 5-5, 6-5.

Bentworth led 2-1 at halftime and then shut out the Spartans the rest of the way as goalkeeper Austin Curry made five saves.

Wyatt Selvoski led the Bearcats’ attack with two goals. Brian Hustava and Levi Jordan each had one goal.

• Jonah Moore had a hat trick in the first half as Canon-McMillan cruised to a 4-0 victory over host Baldwin in Section 2-AAAA.

Brendon Byer had a goal and assisted on two of the Moore goals as the Big Macs (4-3, 7-3) led 4-0 at halftime.

Goalkeeper Marshall Robertson had the shutout.

Baldwin is 1-6 in section and 3-10 overall.

• Aaron Brown scored three goals – all in the first half – and Belle Vernon crushed visiting Uniontown 7-0 in Section 3-AAA.

The Leopards (5-1-1, 8-1-1) remain close behind section leader Ringgold.

Brown helped Belle Vernon forge a 5-0 lead in the first half. Markello Apodiakos scored two goals for the Leopards, and Hunter Martin and Matt Wobrak had one each. Goalkeeper Cam Guess had to make only one save.

• Austin Arnold had a hat trick as Chartiers-Houston defeated Monessen 4-1 in a Section 4-A match.

Jake Cimino had the other goal for C-H (6-4, 7-4)

The lone tally from Monessen was the result of an own goal.

• Waynesburg scored goals six minutes apart in the first half to forge a 2-0 lead and went on to defeat Southmoreland 3-1 in a Section 3-AA match.

Blake Brewer, Gavin Benson and Dalton Woods scored the goals for Waynesburg (6-2, 7-4).

Hunter Fletcher was the lone goal scorer for Southmoreland.

• David Morris scored the fourth and final goal for Beth-Center at the end of the first half as it survived Bishop Canevin’s comeback attempt and defeated the Crusaders 4-3 in a Section 4-A match.

Ken Miller had two goals and Dylan Ferguson scored on a penalty kick for B-C (3-7).
