Monessen battles from down 19 to win nonconference game
BELLEVUE – After falling behind 19-0 to host Northgate, Monessen scored 34 straight points en route to a 34-25 nonconference win Friday night.
The comeback started with an 85-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by Isaiah Beltram at the end of the first quarter.
Elijah Davis then ran for an 8-yard touchdown to cut the score to 19-14 going into halftime.
Lyndon Henderson caught touchdown passes of 72 and 29 yards from quarterback Dawayne Howell to give the Greyhounds the lead. Isaiah Beltram sealed the win for Monessen (2-5) with a 27-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
Two of the Northgate (2-4) scores to start the game were short touchdown runs from Anthony Barbarino, and the other was a fumble recovery in the end zone by Paul Morris. Jadan Sustayta caught a 55-yard pass from Christian Davin in the fourth quarter to cut the deficit to 34-25.
