Girls soccer roundup: LaVigna’s goal nets 2-AAAA title for Peters Township
Regan LaVigna scored off a free kick in the first half Wednesday night and Peters Township held on for a 1-0 victory over host Canon-McMillan that gave the Indians the Section 2-AAAA championship.
PT won the rugged section with a 7-3 mark and 13-3 record overall. Upper St. Clair, which lost 2-0 to Mt. Lebanon, finished in second place at 6-3-1. Canon-McMillan is 5-4-1 in section and 7-6-2 overall.
•Keely Acor scored 13 minutes in and Kasey Scears made it stand as Chartiers-Houston upset Bentworth, 1-0, in a Section 2-A match.
Acor’s goal came after a scramble in front of the net for the Bucs (4-6-1, 5-10-1). Scears made eight saves. Cande Kossel stopped five of six shots for Bentworth (8-2-1, 9-4-1).
• Blackhawk scored two goals in the final 30 minutes to rally for a 3-2 victory over South Fayette in Section 4-AAA.
Goals by Brenna McGuire and Rachel Weis gave South Fayette a 2-1 lead with 32:44 remaining, but Alondra Gonzelz tied it and Britney Adrian scored the game-winner with 6:18 remaining.
South Fayette fell to 7-5-1 in section and 8-5-3 overall. Blackhawk is 6-7, 9-7.
• Trinity defeated West Mifflin 3-1 in a Section 3-AAA match. No other information was made available. Trinity is 5-6-1, 5-7-1. West Mifflin is 0-13, 0-15.
