PT boys soccer earns top seed in WPIAL playoffs
The Peters Township boys’ soccer team turned eight shutouts and a perfect section record (10-0-0) into the No. 1 overall seed in the WPIAL Class AAAA playoffs, which are set to begin at various sites Saturday.
Peters Township, which only surrendered two goals in a single game once this season, will open the first round against Connellsville at Pine Richland High School at 8 p.m. Monday.
After winning its section title, Ringgold earned the No. 4 seed in Class AAA, while South Fayette is the fifth seed.
Canon-McMillan, Belle Vernon, Trinity, Waynesburg, McGuffey, Charleroi, Bentworth, Monessen and Chartiers-Houston also made the postseason on the boys’ side.
Two local girls’ teams – Peters Township in Class AAAA and Waynesburg in AA – both earned No. 3 seeds in their respective classifications.
With the Indians three losses on the year all coming by a 2-1 score, PT (14-3-0, 7-3-0) shared the Section 2-AAAA title with Mt. Lebanon.
Peters Township will open with a first-round home game against Allderdice Monday at 8 p.m.
The only blemish for Waynesburg came in the second game of the season in a 2-1 loss to South Fayette. The Raiders dominated section play with a 12-0-0 record, 16-1-0 overall, to earn back-to-back titles. It also resulted in Waynesburg drawing a first-round bye, the only classification to offer what will result in a weeklong break.
Waynesburg will play either Avonworth or Springdale next Thursday at a site and time to be determined.
Also making the playoffs, were last year’s state champion Canon-McMillan, Belle Vernon, South Fayette, Charleroi, Chartiers-Houston and Bentworth.
