Monessen defeats Mapletown, heads to playoffs

MONESSEN – Dawayne Howell tossed two touchdown passes to help Monessen defeat Mapletown, 30-6, in a key Tri-County South Conference game Friday night.

Mapletown running back Dylan Rush did not play because of a noncontact injury sustained three weeks ago. Rush led the WPIAL in rushing at the time. After the injury, Mapletown did not score an offensive touchdown. Chuck Lash returned a kickoff 85 yards for the lone score for Mapletown (1-6, 2-8)

Howell hit Thaddeus King from 19 yards and Isaiah Beltram from 27 for Monessen (2-5,, 3-7), which earned a spot in the playoffs as a fifth-place team. Howell was 10 of 15 for 159 yards. Dishon Howell returned an interception for a score.
