Westminsters gets past Waynesburg

WAYNESBURG – The football team at Waynesburg University played better, just not good enough to win.
Westminster held a precarious lead until two late touchdowns produced a 28-7 victory over the Yellow Jackets Saturday in a Presidents’ Athletic Conference game at Jack Wiley Stadium. The game did not count in the conference standings.
Dominique McKinley scored on a 10-yard run with just over four minutes to play and Kimu Kim added his second touchdown run of the game in the final minute for the Titans (1-0, 1-1).
The game marked the home debut for interim head coach Chris Smithley and Waynesburg played hard, especially on defense. The Yellow Jackets allowed 379 yards and produced a turnover.
For the second game in a row, Waynesburg’s offense struggled, producing only 148 yards and punting nine times.
When Alec Watts caught a 12-yard pass from Tyler Perone to tie the score, 7-7, with 12:45 left in the first half, it marked the first points of the season for the Yellow Jackets (0-1, 0-2).
Kim scored eight minutes later on a three-yard run to give the Titans the lead for good.
Perone completed 11 of 24 passes for 83 yards and three runners produced 65 yards. McKinley wan for 71 yards on 21 carries for Westminster.
