CHARLEROI – Pitt recruit Madison Clayton scored four goals and Kylie Sinn added a hat trick and a pair of assists to lead Waynesburg past host Charleroi, 8-0, in a Section 3-AA game Monday night.

“Madison does her thing. Kylie is coming into her own,” said Waynesburg coach Joe Kijowski of his dynamic duo. “But this was a great team win.”

The game plan implemented by Charleroi coach Traci Fleming was simply to take Clayton away.

If only it was that simple.

“They are a solid team,” she said. “We tried to double (Clayton) but they have four other girls who can score the ball.

Clayton scored 50 seconds into the match off of a Sinn assist.

Sinn followed up the first-half scoring on a goal with 28:30 remaining after receiving a Bailey Fudala pass to put the Raiders up 2-0.

Rhea Kijowski scored with 15:12 to go before the half off of an Elise Benke assist, and Clayton closed the first-half scoring with 8:19 left.

After the break, Sinn scored her second goal only 31 seconds in, mimicing the similar quick start to begin the game.

“We knew that Charleroi would come out fired up so we wanted to start fast,” he said. “It was key for us.”

Clayton eclipsed the 100-goal mark in her career with two second-half goals four minutes apart.

“It is an honor but I give it all to my teammates because they set me up every single time,” Clayton said about her 101 career goals. “I want to see a WPIAL title more than goals.”

Charleroi, which has six of its 16 players participating in the sport for the first time ever, is continuing to progress and give maximum effort.

“The girls are giving their best,” she said. “But with a team like Waynesburg, who is running formations and plays, they were able to run circles around us.”

Waynesburg goalkeeper Mackenzie Booth recorded seven saves to earn the shutout.
