Mt. Lebanon stops Canon-McMillan’s upset bid
CANONSBURG – Mike Palmer intercepted a Tre Lewis pass in the final minutes to seal Mt. Lebanon’s 24-17 victory over Canon-McMillan in a Class 6A Southeastern Conference game Friday night.
The Big Macs (1-1, 2-2) had pulled to within 24-17 with 6:43 remaining when Greyden Piechnick scored his second touchdown of the game on a 2-yard run.
Mt. Lebanon broke a 10-10 tie at halftime when Aiden Cain caught his second TD pass of the game, this one from 51 yards. Cain, who had a state-record 27 receptions two weeks ago against Pine-Richland, also caught a 73-yarder to open the scoring for Lebo (2-0, 3-1).
Antonio LaSoto scored on a five-yard run to account for Mt. Lebanon’s second score of the third quarter.
Canon-Mac failed to score in the third quarter again, extending a season-long streak.
Lewis completed 20 of 28 passes for 255 yards and 2 TDs for the Big Macs. Elijah Turner rushed for 32 yards and Piechnick caught seven passes for 92 yards.
LaSoto rushed for 113 yards and Cain finished with 9 receptions for 210 yards.
