TrinityþÄôs Joey Koroly breaks away from Uniontown’s Nik Gibson for a touchdown Friday night.

Another week, another record for Trinity’s Joey Koroly. More important, in his eyes, another Trinity win.

One game after setting the school single-game and career touchdown records, Koroly didn’t need nearly as many eye-popping stats to set the Trinity career rushing mark. He entered the game just four yards shy of breaking Ben Jennings’ record of 3,304, set from 2003 to 2005.

Koroly needed two carries to break the mark, gaining five yards on his first two touches. It took all of one more to ensure he’d leave Friday’s game against Uniontown with the record, as Koroly ran 49 yards for a touchdown on the game’s fourth play to set the stage for Trinity’s 48-14 dismantling of the visiting Red Raiders in a Class 4A Big Nine Conference game.

”I just focus on the win,” said Koroly. “I don’t really care about records. I mean, it’s an honor, but I’m out here with my teammates making memories.”

Koroly finished with 224 yards on 15 carries, all in the first half. He also scored on touchdown runs of 7 and 73 yards, his final two touches of the game. His pursuit of 4,000 career rushing yards took a big step. He now has 3,525 career yards after Friday.

But 4,000 is not his focus nor Jon Miller’s.

”It’s a goal that I have, but again, I just play the game,” said Koroly.

”4,000 is a pretty big deal for any running back,” said Miller, Trinity’s head coach.

But, Miller said, “I’m not worried about the record. We’re trying to win. Bottom line is we’re trying to get better each week. Records come when you play hard and do a good job.”

Dylan Kern threw a pair of touchdowns on just four pass attempts, one to Cole Bair, who also had a pick-six in the game, and to Dausen Marry. Tanner Hudak gained 62 yards in the first half, including a 2-yard touchdown run.

As far as winning goes, the Hillers (2-2, 3-2) took care of business during a three-game stretch in the schedule that featured teams that combined for one win. That followed a rough start to the season, with road games at West Mifflin and Thomas Jefferson.

Things get tougher again as a trip to Belle Vernon is next. The Leopards are tied with Thomas Jefferson at the top of the conference. Following that are two winnable games against Albert Gallatin and Greensburg Salem before another test, home to Ringgold, awaits to close out the regular season.

For now, the Leopards are the focus.

”I don’t think we’re looking ahead,” said Miller. “We’ve created a nice rivalry with Belle Vernon. We were real close the last two years, and we want to take that next step.”

Uniontown fell to 0-4, 0-6.
