Baseball roundup: Riley tosses one-hitter in win

Charleroi’s Keaton Riley tossed a one-hitter to lead the Cougars to a 2-0 victory over host Waynesburg.
Riley struck out seven and walked three in his seven innings to earn the Section 3-AAA win.
The only hit was a Kyle Blasco single.
Charleroi (2-0, 5-0) scored one run in the first and another in the third. Dakota Romantino scored the first run after he reached on an error, and Cole Perry knocked in the other after he hit a sacrifice fly.
Kyle Shriver threw four innings for Waynesburg (1-1, 2-1), allowing only one earned run and striking out seven.
Chartiers-Houston 15, Burgettstown 11: Matt Whitfield and Jimmy Sadler led Chartiers-Houston to a 15-11 Section 1-AA win over host Burgettstown.
Both Bucs hitters went 4-for-6 at the plate. Sadler hit a double and tallied two RBI, while Whitfield hit all singles with three RBI.
The rest of the C-H (0-1, 1-1) hitters were also swinging hot bats, as Destin Weiser hit two doubles and Roman Lombardi also doubled. Weiser threw the last 3 1/3 innings for the Bucs, earning the save.
Josh Colletti was the winning pitcher for C-H, walking six and striking out four in 3 2/3 innings. Only two of Colletti’s seven runs allowed were earned.
Ryan Lounder doubled for Burgettstown (0-1, 1-1), which was the Blue Devils’ only extra-base hit.
Peters Township 9, Allderdice 1: Garrett Miller struck out eight batters over five scoreless frames to lead Peters Township to a 9-1 win over Section 3-6A rival Allderdice.
Miller allowed two hits and zero walks in his five-inning win. Mark Edeburn threw the last two innings for the Indians. The two hurlers didn’t allow an extra-base hit in the winning effort.
Colin Caven led the Peters (1-0, 3-0) offense with a home run. Dom Campagna, Joe Ehland and Jackson McCloskey all doubled in the win.
Allderdice’s (0-1, 0-1) Tanner Jacobson was the losing pitcher, striking out nine batters and walking none in his six innings.
Blackhawk 3, South Fayette 2: Blackhawk’s Andy McClymonds pitched and hit the Cougars to a Section 2-AAAA win over South Fayette.
McClymonds struck out eight in his six-inning win while also smacking two hits at the plate to drive in all three of Blackhawk’s three runs.
Michael Turconi struck out two batters in a scoreless seventh inning to earn the save for Blackhawk (3-0, 4-0).
Ryan Kokoski struck out four in 5 1/3 innings for South Fayette (1-1, 1-1).
Mount Pleasant 11, Washington 1: Asher O’Connor went 4-for-4 with two doubles and four RBI to lead Mount Pleasant to an 11-1 Section 3-AAA win over visiting Washington.
The Vikings scored a run in all five innings, led by a four-run fifth inning, to win the five-inning game by mercy rule.
Jared Wagner was the winning pitcher for Mount Pleasant (0-1, 0-1), striking out six and walking none in five innings.
For Washington (1-0, 1-2), Jordan Swart and Alex Crawford both hit doubles, and Hunter Amos struck out seven and allowed five earned runs in his four-inning losing effort.
Greensburg Central Catholic 16, Mapletown 1: Bruce Leonard struck out nine batters in four innings as his offense roped 17 hits to defeat Section 2-A forMapletown 16-1.
Leonard allowed only two hits and one walk in his four-inning victory.
Thomas Voelker, Antonio Cavallo, Will Sheffler and Ethan Bailey all hit doubles for the Centurions. Connor Petrunak also tripled for Greensburg CC (2-0, 2-1).
The Centurions scored six runs in the first inning and seven runs in the third en route to the mercy-rule win.
Mapletown falls to 0-3 overall and 0-1 in the section.
