High school softball: Brookman, C-H walk off against Fort Cherry

Ella Brookman hit a game-winning single to right field in the bottom of the seventh inning as Chartiers-Houston defeated Fort Cherry, 5-4, in a Class 2A Section 3 game.

Brookman’s base hit scored Jaylese Lombardi, who reached base safely earlier in the inning on a single and advanced to second on a passed ball before scoring.

Fort Cherry (1-3, 2-4) scored four runs in the sixth inning as a result of several errors in the inning by the Bucs.

Brookman also excelled in the circle for C-H (4-1, 6-1) with 13 strikeouts and no earned runs in her seven innings for the win. Brookman only surrendered one hit.

The lone hit for the Rangers was a double from Macey Roble.

Monessen 15, California 0: Monessen pitcher Dana Vatakis struck out each of the 15 batters she faced as the Greyhounds blanked California, 15-0, in a Class A Section 2 matchup in five innings.

The perfect game for Vatakis was only a portion of her dominance throughout the day. The senior went 2-for-3 with a double and a triple to drive in three runs.

Destiny Habeck went 2-for-2 with four RBI for Monessen (4-1, 5-1).

California falls to 1-3 in section and 1-4 overall.

Carmichaels 12, Mapletown 0: Gina Ranieri and Shelbee McCann each had a single and double to lead Carmichaels past Mapletown, 12-0, in a Class A Section 2 game.

Ranieri and McCann had three RBI for the Mikes, who bounced back from two straight losses to improve to 3-2 in section and 5-4 overall.

Katherine Fox had a pair of singles for Mapletown (2-1, 4-1).

Brownsville 13, Charleroi 10: Brownsville used a six-run sixth inning and defeated Charleroi, 13-10, in a Class 3A Section 3 slugfest.

Facing a 13-6 deficit entering the bottom half of the seventh inning, the Cougars scored four runs but couldn’t complete the comeback.

Taylor Boyd, Sam Mavilla, Katie Reed, Sarah Kondratik and Phoebe Wentzell each had two hits for Charleroi (0-5, 0-6).

Brownsville (1-4, 2-6) pitcher Payton Hall had five strikeouts and went 2-for-5 at the plate.

West Greene 11, Jefferson-Morgan 0: West Greene improved to 7-1, and 4-0 in Section 2-A with an 11-0, 5-inning win over Jefferson-Morgan. Winning pitcher Madison Renner went 3-for-3 with a double, 3-run homer, and 5 RBI. She struck out 7 and allowed just two hits.

McKenna Lampe stole a base, scored, and drove in a run. Madison Lampe scored 2 runs, stole a base and had an RBI. Kaitlyn Rizor doubled, scored once, and had an RBI. Lexie Mooney was 3-for-3 with a stolen base and RBI. Mackenzie Carpenter had a triple, and run scored. Kylie Simms drove in a run, and Jersey Wise scored twice and stole a base.

Cait Dugan took the loss for J-M, striking out 2. Autumn Gustovich and Maddie Reeves had the hits for J-M.
