High school baseball: Hess throws shutout to lead C-M over PT
Ian Hess tossed a 6-hit shutout to help Canon-McMillan to a 2-0 victory over Peters Township in a Section 3 game in Class 6A.
Hess struck out 9 and did not walk a batter as C-M moved to 4-2 in the section and 7-3 overall. Hess hit a sacrifice fly to knock in a run in the first inning and Brandon Kline drove in the other run with a single in the fourth.
Joe Ehland doubled for the Indians (2-4, 5-7).
Fort Cherry 7, Chartiers-Houston 4: Fort Cherry batted around in the second inning, scoring seven runs, on the way to a 7-4 victory over Chartiers-Houston in a Section 1-AA game.
Cam Schaub picked up the win for the Rangers (5-1, 5-1). Andrew Kowalski went 3-for-3 with a double for the Bucs (3-3, 4-4).
Cornell 12, Avella 2: Cornell scored in all six innings of its 12-2 victory over Avella in a Section 3-A game.
Stefan Blackstone and Ty Godfrey each had a double and 3 RBI for Cornell (3-1, 3-1).
James Taylor doubled for Avella (0-3, 0-4).
Carmichaels 13, Burgettstown 0: Al Cree had a double, single and drove in four runs to help Carmichaels shut out Burgettstown, 13-0, in a 5-inning Section 1-AA game.
Matt Barrish struck out 5 and didn’t walk a batter for the Mikes (3-1, 3-2). Dylan Wilson and Chad Ruse each knocked in two runs, Nick Mundell doubled, singled, scored a run and drove in a run, and four other players scored twice.
Ryan Lounder doubled for the Blue Devils (1-3, 2-3).
Jefferson-Morgan 12, Mapletown 2: Bryce Bedillion struck out 11 and walked just one to lead Jefferson-Morgan to a 12-2 victory over Mapletown in a 6-inning Section 2-A game.
Zack Gamble went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI and a run scored, Colten Davidson went 3-for-5 and scored, and Bedillion went 2-for-4, scored 3 times and drove in a run for J-M (3-2, 4-2). Jake Broadwater and Justin Maddich each scored twice.
Brian Bogden drove in two run for the Maples (0-4, 0-6).
South Fayette 9, Quaker Valley 4: Joey Alcorn went 2-for-3 and scored twice to pace South Fayette to a 9-4 win over Quaker Valley in a Section 2 game in Class 4A.
Eli Snider doubled for the Lions (5-1, 7-3) and Tyler Bedillion picked up the win.
