Miami Dolphins reserve middle linebacker Mike Hull was taken off the field on a cart during the second quarter of Thursday’s preseason opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Hard Rock Stadium.

Hull, a graduate of Canon-McMillan High school, didn’t return to the game.

Hull, a three-year veteran from Penn State, appeared to sustain a left knee injury on a play near the goal line.

According to the Phins.com, the injury occurred when Hull was standing at the front of the pile, then had several players roll into his left knee. As the knee buckled towards his right leg, Hull fell to the ground.

If Hull, a core special teams player, is out for an extended period, it could force Miami to search the free-agent market for an answer. Chase Allen, a second-year undrafted player, started in the middle last year and has seen action there so far this year.
