Stumbling start dooms Wild Things

Lee-Jun Kalawaia’s grand slam highlighted a five-run first inning that propelled the Joliet Slammers to a 6-1 victory over the Washington Wild Things Thursday night in a Frontier League game.

The win ties Joliet with Washington atop the East Division standings and snapped the Wild Things three-game winning streak.

Liam O’Sullivan went the distance for Joliet, allowing four hits and one unearned run. He struck out four and did not walk a batter.

Washington starter Levi MaVorhis lasted three inning, gave up five earned runs and took the loss.

The Wild Things scored their only run in the third when James Harris drove in Connor Simonetti with a sacrifice fly. Joliet got a run in the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Trenton Hill.
