Spectators and players try to stay out of the rain Friday evening during a downpour at the Lew Hays Pony Field in Washington Park.

Inclement weather Friday night immediately impacted the Pony League World Series schedule.

Heavy rain caused Pony to postpone the opening two games of the tournament Friday night and move them to today to create a four-game schedule at Lew Hays Pony Field in Washington Park.

The series is scheduled to run in the same order, beginning with Bay County, Mich., versus Yaguate, Dominican Republic, in the opening game at 9:30 a.m.

The three other games scheduled to follow the opener are:

  • Youngstown, Ohio, versus Vienna, Austria, at noon

  • Washington County versus Bronx, N.Y., at 2:30 p.m.

  • Brownsville, Texas, versus Tijuana, Mexico, at 5 p.m.

With the change, the Host Area team, Youngstown, will be televised on AT&T SportsNet. Washington County was originally scheduled to play in that time slot.

The finale originally scheduled for tonight between Chinese Taipei and the Bay County/Yaguate winner will now be played at noon Sunday.

The Champions League game and opening ceremonies were cancelled.

The Home Run Derby and Fastest Runner contests were held Friday morning. Ivan Rodriguez, a member of Mexico champion Tijuana, won the derby. Felix Tena, of Yaguate, Dominican Republic, was the fastest runner.
