Wild Things rained out, will play 2
The Wild Things’ series opener Friday night against the Windy City ThunderBolts was rained out. It has been rescheduled as part of a doubleheader beginning today at 5:05 p.m. at Wild Things Park.
Washington began Friday tied for first place in the Frontier League’s East Division with Joliet. The Slammers lost 6-0 at Schaumburg, moving the Wild Things a half-game ahead of Joliet. Third-place Lake Erie lost at home to Traverse City, 12-6, and trails Washington by 2½ games.
Washington is expected to pitch Michael Austin (1-2, 4.05) and Jacob Belinda (1st start). Belinda is the newphew of former Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Stan Belinda. Windy City will counter with Zac Westcott (6-7, 3.75) and Paddy Ledet (5-6, 4.63). Westcott leads the league with 99 strikeouts in 103 innings. The ThunderBolts also have shortstop Omar Obregon, who has a league-best .388 batting average.
