Mike Hill hit a two-run home run and drove in four to help the Washington Wild Things to an 11-1 win over the Traverse City Beach Bums and a split of Wednesday’s doubleheader. Washington lost the opener, 2-1.

The Wild Things are now one game back of Joliet, a 12-5 winner over Lake Erie last night, for first place in the East Division.

Ryan Cox went 3-for-4 with a double, two RBI and a run for the Wild Things. Reydel Medina went 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI and Roman Collins went 2-for-3 and scored twice. Levi MaVorhis gave up one unearned run in five innings to pick up the win.

In the opening game, Noah McGowan, the No. 9 hitter in Traverse City’s lineup, hit a two-out single that scored Kendall Patrick from second base and gave the Beach Bums a 2-1 win in nine innings.

Washington was held to three hits by Beach Bums starter Reinaldo Lopez and reliever Matt Williams (4-2). Williams gave up four walks in two innings but got the win.

Traverse City took a 1-0 lead with a run off Washington starter Thomas Dorminy in the first inning and Washington tied the score in the fourth when Roman Collins doubled and scored on a single by hector Roa.

The Wild Things had runners on first and second with one out in the eighth but did not score, and had Roa at third base with one out in the top of the ninth but an infield popout and a strikeout ended the threat.

Zach Strecker (5-4) was the losing pitcher.
