One run enough for Wild Things’ Cunningham
Chase Cunningham was masterful through eight innings, not allowing a run, to help the Washington Wild Things take a 1-0 victory from Windy City Saturday night in a Frontier League game.
Washington’s victory, coupled with Joliet’s loss, means the two teams are tied for first place in the East Division standings.
Cunningham faced 27 batters, gave up six hits and struck out three to get the win and raise his record to 7-5 and lower his ERA to 4.58.
Zach Strecker pitched a scoreless ninth to earn the save.
Jake Welch was the hard-luck loser for the ThunderBolts, tossing nine innings and allowing just one run. He struck out four, did not walk a batter and permitted just three hits.
The lone run of the game came in the fourth inning for Washington. James Harris opened the inning with a single to left field then stole second base. Roman Collins moved Harris to third base with a ground out to first.
Reydel Medina then tripled to right field to easily score Harris.
Welch settled down after that, striking out Hector Roa and inducing Mike Hill to fly out to end the inning.
