Sunnafrank earns first win with Wild Things
Dillon Sunnafrank pitched five scoreless innings and struck out nine to earn his first win of the season as the Washington Wild Things defeated Windy City, 6-2, in a Frontier League game Sunday afternoon.
The win gives first-place Washington a one-game lead over Joliet in the East Division standings.
It was only the second appearance for Sunnafrank after being picked up by the Wild Things at last Monday’s transaction deadline. He allowed only two hits.
Sunnafrank was able to work with an early cushion when Carter McEachern singled to center field to score Mike Hill and give Washington a 1-0 lead in the second.
The Wild Things extended their lead in the fifth on a Reydel Medina sacrifice fly, an RBI single from Hector Roa and on a wild pitch to lead 4-0.
Roa, the cleanup hitter for Washington, went 3-for-5 with two RBI. Catcher Chase Simmons also had three hits.
The only runs Windy City scored came on a two-run homer from Tyler Straub in the sixth inning against Washington reliever Davis Adkins.
Washington rebuilt its lead on run-scoring singles in the eighth and ninth innings from Simmons and Roa.
